Tailings Operations Excellence
Our Tailings Operations Excellence services aim to enhance the safety and efficiency of tailings facility operations.
We develop and implement best-in-class operational manuals and plans that align with GISTM standards.
Our team works closely with clients to improve spigot management, dam inspection protocols, mudfarming design and implementation, and maintenance planning, ensuring sustainable and risk-free tailings operations.
Key Skills and Expertise:
Our teams present with Industry best-in-practice in:
-
Operational Optimization: Expertise in streamlining tailings operations to improve efficiency and safety.
-
GISTM Compliance: Ensuring that all tailings operations comply with the latest Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management.
-
Risk Mitigation: Identifying and mitigating risks associated with tailings operations to prevent failures and ensure stability.
-
Maintenance Planning: Developing and implementing maintenance schedules and practices to ensure the longevity and reliability of tailings facilities.
-
Monitoring and Inspection: Utilizing advanced monitoring technologies and rigorous inspection protocols to ensure continuous safety and performance.
-
Training and Development: Providing comprehensive training for operational staff to ensure best practices and compliance with industry standards.

Gove Tailings Facility Operations
-
Scope: Working under Rio Tinto our director managed the overall site activities for tailings closure, including bauxite residue tailings pond operations, management of the tailings risk profile and the integration of the tailings dam closure with rehabilitation & maintenace into perpetuity,
-
Achievements: Successfully reduced the tailings risk profile for Rio Tinto Gove, including closure of an off-lease tailings pond controlling long-term seepage issue risks, and implementation an Independent Technical Review Board (ITRB) for ongoing oversight.
-
Key Initiatives: Developed and commissioned a Water Treatment Facility for processing bauxite residue supernatant liquor, ensuring statutory environmental compliance and optimizing tailings operations.

Worsley Alumina Tailings Facility Operations
-
Scope: Working under South32 our director managed one of the world's largest bauxite residue tailings facilities, overseeing the management of tailings operation including deposition, dam failure risk management and compliance with ANCOLD and later GISTM.
-
Achievements: Improved the operational efficiency and safety of the tailings facility through the implementation of innovative operational practices and risk management strategies. Successfully managed internal labor and contracting workforce to operate tailings and water dams, significantly improving the risk profile and operational efficiency of the facility.
-
Key Initiatives: Introduced a 'Tailings performance standard' based on a 'bowtie' foundation, resulting in clear accountabilities and targets for risk owners and action owners managing activities in the engineering, construction, and operation of the tailings site, significantly improving the risk profile and operational efficiency of the facility.
